HARRISBURG – Reps. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) and K.C. Tomlinson (R-Bucks) today announced that PennDOT will begin reimbursing motorists who were fined by automated speed cameras along U.S. Route 1. Those given warnings will have those warnings rescinded.

At the end of 2021, the offices of Farry and Tomlinson began receiving complaints from motorists who received warnings and tickets in an Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement (AWZSE) on the U.S. Route 1 RC2 project just north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. 

After hearing from the residents, the Representatives’ offices discovered that inappropriate signage was used on the project, as PennDOT mistakenly calibrated the cameras at the incorrect speed limit. The Representatives both worked with PennDOT who investigated the claims. 

In the near future PennDOT will send recission letters to every motorist who received warnings and tickets, along with reimbursing those who paid fines. 

Farry and Tomlinson said they appreciate PennDOT’s effort to examine and solve this issue in an appropriate and timely manner.

The U.S. Route 1 RC2 project will continue using an AWZSE to monitor the speed of motorists. Pennsylvania permits the use of Automated Licensing Systems in construction sites along roadways with reducing speed limits to help protect workers.
